Like everyone, I have many faces that I show to the world, and several I keep very well hidden. I try to be as honest as I can on this site, as I really don't see the point in having this place if all I do is try and pretend to be something I'm not. Hopefully you'll come away from here feeling as though you know me a little. Which, at the end of the day, is pretty much all any of us can ask for.
So, onto the concrete facts! First off, my name is Beth, and I'm very pleased to meet you! I'm 23 years old, and currently live at home. I'm fine with this situation right now as I get on really well with my family. I mean, obviously we have the typical fights and arguments that any family has, but on the whole, we're a pretty solid bunch. I'm in the fourth year of what was meant to be my "one year break" from education.
I am supposed to be sorting my life out, I have no idea what I want to do in the future and seem to become less sure with every step I take.
I fully intended to apply to University this year and, indeed, the year before, I really did. But I'm held back by both uncertainty and fear. I'm sure that, eventually, I'll figure out where I want to be and what I want to do. But until then, I'll continue to think of myself as "biding my time."
So, at the moment I work full-time in a bookshop, which isn't the greatest career move, but it's fun and fine and dandy. I get cheap books, which is a blessing, as I am an avid reader.
I will read anything, from classics to teenage fiction, from biographies to science fiction. I love almost all genres. I'm not a big fan of the million or so "Chick-Lit" books that have flooded
the market since Bridget Jones, though I am rather partial to that particular book. I am a pretty big fan of science fiction. I've always loved the idea of other worlds, of heroes and quests, and of being part of something bigger than just yourself, and I feel that sci-fi and fantasy titles best illustrate this outlook.
I wouldn't want to call myself a big ole geek or anything, but that description does pretty much hit the nail on the head!
Music is also pretty much a way of life for me. I love to browse record stores just looking for something I've never heard before. I'll buy an album based on one song, on the cover art even on the basis of the song titles. Sure, sometimes I'm disapointed, but sometimes I come across the most amazing artist, I might otherwise never have found.
I've been trying to go to a lot more gigs recently, there's nothing like live music. No matter how I feel when I go to a gig, I'll nearly always leave with a huge smile on my face, it's just the best medicine.
So, if all that didn't give you enough of an idea of what I like, here's a few useless lists to scroll past!
